Practitioners are not asked to quit smoking or make any change in lifestyle when they learn the technique, he added. Although standard treatments can result in immediate positive effects, there is often a relapse later, Dr Dillbeck said. However, with the Transcendental Meditation Programme the effect increased over time because practitioners become more balanced and self-sufficient, he explained.
