During the summer deciduous vines grow up the trellis on the eastern side allowing the nourishing influence of the early morning sun to enter, but shading eastern windows as the sun rises to keep the house cool. In the winter the vines die back and the morning sun warms the house.

The first Abundance EcoVillage home. In warmer months vines grow along the trellis spanning the eastern side of the house, allowing the nourishing influence of the early morning sun to enter, and providing some cooling as the sun rises higher. In winter when the vines are dormant, the morning sun warms the house.
