Interest in Consciousness-Based Education is growing in the Togolese Republic (Togo) among students, teachers, parents, and government leaders. Dr Ashley Deans, Global Ambassador for Consciousness-Based Education, recently visited Togo as part of an eight-nation tour of Africa.

He spoke with students, parents, educators, and education officials about the wide-ranging benefits of the programmes of Maharishi Mahesh Yogi in the field of education. Parents and teachers at a leading private school where the director is a practitioner of the Transcendental Meditation Programme responded to Dr Deans' talk with many enthusiastic questions.

Dr Deans told them about his experience with Maharishi School of the Age of Enlightenment* and other Consciousness-Based Education schools around the world. Parents and teachers are now interested in Transcendental Meditation for themselves as well as for students, and the school is looking into this possibility.

Government leaders were also enthusiastic about Consciousness-Based Education and invited Dr Deans to return to Togo for further presentations. One leader of a governmental organization to support young people wants to explore the possibility of a programme for the unemployed youth in Togo through this agency.

During his stay, a talk show on a government television channel featured a 20-minute segment about Consciousness-Based Education. Students at a university who heard him speak also expressed great interest and wanted Dr Deans to return to their school.

* Dr Ashley Deans is also Executive Director of Maharishi School of the Age of Enlightenment in Fairfield, Iowa, USA.
