| 9 March 2011 Part of the site plan of Abundance EcoVillage, a highly sustainable community of small houses in Fairfield, Iowa, USA. The buildings are mostly 'off the grid'. In a fairly equal exchange with the power company, electricity is generated on-site, with excess sent to the grid for credit, toward the rare occasions when the development needs to draw additional power. Sewage is processed naturally on-site. In addition to rainwater cisterns supplying most of the houses, filtered pond water is used for backup. |
