12 May 2012 On a recent visit to Israel, Dr Bevan Morris, President of Maharishi University of Management, met with government leaders, education professionals, and practitioners of the Transcendental Meditation Technique. His goal was to promote an invincible state of peace and progress for Israel and the Middle East, through the knowledge and technologies of consciousness developed by Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, including Transcendental Meditation and Consciousness-Based Education. In relation to Consciousness-Based Education—an educational system centred around the development of consciousness and a daily programme conducive to increasing academic achievement, reducing stress, and promoting health and total brain development for each individual student—Dr Morris mentioned a school in Israel which saw past success by utilizing the programme. A high school in a predominantly Arabic neighbourhood in Israel implemented Consciousness-Based Education for a period of time. The town, like many others in the region, is a place with historic associations in ancient scriptures. Dr Morris described the Consciousness-Based Education programme at the local high school, where for several years all the children practised Transcendental Meditation. The programme was introduced as a kind of last resort, he said.
'The principal introduced [it] when he found that his school was about to be closed because of all the violence in the school. After he had introduced Transcendental Meditation to his children he found that they changed from inside, so now they were actually able to follow the directives and the rules of behaviour.'
