What looks like an oil rig was actually a machine analysing the soil composition and layers in Rendlesham, plus checking about the possibility of geothermal heating. Also, the area was the site of a former US base from World War II, but using this machine revealed that Garden Village buildings were not constructed over old concrete foundations.
