April 2009 Each day of the year is influenced by the movements of the planets, stars, and the whole galactic universe; and it is the Laws of Nature that give this direction to time—each day, each hour, each minute, each second. The spring Vedic celebration of Navaratri has prescribed performances which enliven the infinite organizing power of Natural Law which are lively at this time. Traditionally these performances are said to bestow wealth, prosperity, health, longevity, knowledge, and intelligence. Global Good News is pleased to present photos of the traditional spring Navaratri celebration which took place in Bhopal, India. The celebration was also performed by Maharishi Vedic Pandits in many locations in India and around the world, and was broadcast by Internet from the Brahmasthan (centre) of India. Navaratri means 'nine nights' because this Vedic festival spans nine days and culminates on the tenth day, call Raam Navami. The significance of Navaratri can be described in terms of the eightfold nature of Prakriti, constituting the Pancha Mahabhuta, the five gross elements in Nature—earth, water, fire, air, and space—and the three more subtle elements—mind, intellect, and ego. These eight Prakriti constitute the eightfold divided nature of consciousness, or intelligence, at the basis of the entire manifest creation. |
